Finding the Good in a Cancer
A cancer diagnosis is life changing. But for many survivors, the journey also reveals unexpected blessings—moments of growth, connection, and newfound purpose.
While cancer is undeniably difficult, it can also bring profound good in ways we never imagined.
Facing cancer often shifts our perspective.
Survivors frequently express a newfound gratitude for everyday moments—sunrises, laughter, and time spent with loved ones. Life’s little things take on greater meaning, and the things that once felt urgent or stressful no longer hold the same weight.
Cancer has a way of deepening bonds with family, friends, and even strangers. It reminds us of the importance of connection and encourages more honest, heartfelt conversations.
Some relationships grow stronger, while new friendships—especially with fellow survivors—bring support and understanding that lasts a lifetime.
After one of my speaking engagements, a lady approached me and asked me for help with a friend who had just received her breast cancer diagnosis. She is a single woman living out of state. I asked for her contact information and reached out to her. We chatted several times via text and phone conversations over the next several months. Last summer when I traveled to Florida, we met in person for the first time and recently, we met again!
We had lunch and talked for over 2 hours! Because of cancer, we have a bond, a newfound relationship that is strong. We had bold, honest, heartfelt conversation; we share this thing called, "survivorship".
We supported each other and we understand each other.
Unexpected, good.
