TESTIMONIAL

“My cancer diagnosis was Basal Squamous Cell Carcinoma that had invaded all the soft tissue, the bone and cartilage of my nose. My treatment was extensive surgery to remove the cancer. I was quarantined in my home for 30 days with open wounds from the first of three reconstructive surgeries.

Edie and her staff provided any services in the spa at no cost to me and offered them to my husband as well. It was an awesome stress reduction in a loving, nurturing, caring environment. A welcome reprieve from doctors visits and constant focus on my recovery. It helped me adjust to my new normal with a face I no longer recognized. Maybe most cherished was the prayers that Edie and her team were saying for me.”

What is The Stonebrook Project?

The Stonebrook Project was founded by Edie Tolbert in 2018.

Our Mission: “Helping cancer patients feel like real people.”

We provide HOPE through Connection, Care, Community and Education. We provide a connection through our partnerships with Stonebrook Day Spa, Northeastern Oklahoma Cancer Institute, and Oklahoma Cancer Specialists and Research Institute.  We provide care by improving access to complimentary oncology massage therapy services to men and women currently in treatment for cancer. We provide support to the cancer community by hosting our monthly Community Cancer Group. Our Breast Health & Awareness program is educating and empowering women to become their own advocate concerning their breast health.

Oncology Massage

Oncology Massage Therapy is a naturopathic method of treatment. It is a client-specific, customized massage session, designed to meet the changing and unique needs of someone navigating cancer treatment.  Our Oncology Certified Licensed Massage Therapists are trained in the basics of chemotherapy and radiation as well as surgery sites and port placement. This training builds trust and a safe environment for those in cancer treatment.

Oncology Reflexology

Oncology Reflexology is a hand and foot massage that reduces chemotherapy induced nausea and fatigue while receiving chemotherapy. It is also effective in reducing the side effects of neuropathy which is a post treatment side effect of chemotherapy.

Oncology Chair Massage

Oncology Chair Massage helps the patient relax and relieves muscle tension before receiving daily radiation treatments.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage can improve post-surgical recovery, pain reduction, regulate fluid balance, immune function, sleep, and reduce/control edema. During cancer treatment, a person’s lymph nodes may be removed due to cancer. 20 to 30 percent of all breast cancer patients will have lymph nodes removed during their treatment.  When the nodes are removed, your lymphatic system or immune system becomes compromised. MLD massage is effective in regulating the movement of fluid and reducing pain and swelling.

Community Cancer Group

Community Cancer Group is a group of cancer patients who are newly diagnosed, currently in treatment, survivors of cancer, and their caregivers or support person. We meet once a month for dinner and discussion. There are many fears and questions that go unanswered when you are diagnosed with cancer. This group allows like-minded people to come together and talk freely about their cancer experience. We provide informational, emotional, and practical support to those navigating their cancer treatment.

Breast Health Education

Breast Health & Awareness Education is a program that educates and empowers women to be their own advocate concerning their breast health. 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Our Founder is a breast cancer survivor of 15 years and has 12 years of experience/knowledge to teach the principles of breast self-exam, clinical breast exam, and mammography. "Early Detection according to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized state, the 5-year relative survival rate is 99%. Early detection includes doing monthly breast self-exams, regular clinical breast exams and mammograms." Our goal is to increase the survival rate with education and early detection.

testimonial

“My cancer diagnosis was stage 3B Triple Negative Breast Cancer. My treatment involved implanting a port near my clavicle for treatment. Treatment consisted of four rounds of the “Red Devil”, and eight rounds of Tamoxifen chemotherapy. Afterward, I had a lumpectomy and the removal of 17 lymph nodes, five of which showed microscopic signs of cancer after chemotherapy. After healing from surgery, my next treatment was thirty-six rounds of daily (Monday – Friday) radiation.

The Stonebrook Project made a huge impact on my life while going through treatment. I was brand new to Oklahoma and did not know anyone with the exception of my daughter. I met so many wonderful cancer clients through the Let’s Talk About It support group. The support group and the Stonebrook Project became my lifeline.”
